Large-Scale Growth of Tubular Aragonite Whiskers through a MgCl2-Assisted Hydrothermal Process

چکیده
In this paper, we have developed a facile MgCl₂-assissted hydrothermal synthesis route to grow tubular aragonite whiskers on a large scale. The products have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy, and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). The results show the as-grown product is pure tubular aragonite crystalline whiskers with a diameter of 5-10 mm and a length of 100-200 mm, respectively. The concentration of Mg2+ plays an important role in determining the quality and purity of the products. Furthermore, the method can be extended to fabricate CaSO₄ fibers. The high quality of the product and the mild conditions used mean that the present route has good prospects for the growth of inorganic crystalline whiskers.

Strengthening of calcium phosphate cement by compounding calcium carbonate whiskers.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how aragonite (calcium carbonate) whiskers influenced the strengthening and carbonating of alpha-tricalcium phosphate (alpha-TCP) based calcium phosphate cement. Aragonite whiskers of 0.95 microm width with an aspect ratio of 6.6 were prepared. The cement powder, alpha-TCP containing 0-50 mass% aragonite whisker, was mixed with 0.6 mol/L NaH2PO4 solu...

متن کاملThe precipitation of aragonite from shallow-water hydrothermal fluids in a coral reef, Tutum Bay, Ambitle Island, Papua New Guinea
The fringing reef in Tutum Bay on the west side of Ambitle Island, Papua New Guinea is the only presently known coral reef exposed to the extensive discharge of a hot, mineralized hydrothermal fluid. There, aragonite and ferrihydrite, a hydrous ferric oxide, are the prominent hydrothermal precipitates. Aragonite forms two distinct crystal habits, (a) euhedral (pseudohexagonal) crystals up to 2 ...

How graphene oxide (GO) with its step edges and wrinkles (∼1-2 nm) acts as a catalyst in hydrothermal nucleation and growth is demonstrated. TiO2 whiskers were prepared by using GO as a support, while TiO2 nanograss was prepared without using GO.

Combination of sol-gel and hydrothermal routes in the metal alkoxide binary system of Al(OR)3-Ti(OR)4 (R= -CH(CH3)2 or -CH2CH2OCH3) were investigated to prepare single phase aluminum titanate (tialite). The effects of various parameters, such as hydrothermal processing temperature, solvent polarity and the type of alkoxide precursor, in phase development of the product powders have been investi...
